My path has been less about following a map and more about navigating by a compass pointed towards understanding – understanding technology, understanding communication, and most importantly, understanding people.
Early in my career, I spent a year traveling the globe documenting diverse cultures through writing, photography, and video for an award-winning website (WiredNomad.com – SXSW Award). That experience, combined with subsequent years in broadcast, film and television – moving from hands-on production roles to overseeing digital strategy – gave me a broad view of how content and technology intersect.
Launching my own ventures, first in marketing, then a startup for e-commerce video, brought a crucial realization: the most effective communication, whether a user guide or a marketing campaign, centers entirely on understanding the person on the other end. It’s not just about the features or the message; it’s about empathy, clarity, and addressing the audience’s true needs and journey.
What have I learned through all this?
That clarity is kindness. That technology serves people, not the other way around. That truly understanding your audience – their context, their questions, their goals – is the bedrock of any successful communication, technical or otherwise.
Make things clear. Design things that are functional. Create for the human.
Today, I’m bringing all these threads together, eager to apply this perspective and my skills in technical communication, content strategy, and marketing technology to projects that value clarity and thoughtful execution.
